Steel frame of an industrial building under construction

Technical reference: AWS D1.1 · AISC

Steel structures

Design, fabrication and erection of steel structures for industrial and infrastructure projects, including steel buildings, trusses, mezzanines and support structures. The work is carried out by in-house technical personnel, using qualified procedures and with the welding traceability required by the applicable standards.

Scope

What it covers

Scope is adjusted to the requirements of each project. These are the activities we normally execute within this service.

  • Shop detailing and fabrication

Preparation of shop drawings from the engineering package, and execution of cutting, fit-up and welding of columns, beams, trusses and purlins.

  • Surface preparation and coating

Mechanical cleaning, primer and finish coat, selected according to the service environment intended for the structure.

  • Transport and lifting

Delivery of members to site and crane erection, including the lift sequence and temporary bracing.

  • Erection and alignment

Base plate leveling, column plumbing, bolt torquing and field welding with inspection.

Frequently asked questions

Does ONIX carry out fabrication and erection, or only one of the two stages?

Both. The full scope can be contracted — shop fabrication and site erection — or erection alone, where the steel has already been fabricated.

Which code applies to the structural welding?

AWS D1.1 for structural welding and AISC for design. Procedures are qualified before fabrication starts.

What information is required to prepare the quotation?

Drawings or available technical documentation, project location, scope required and estimated execution schedule. That information allows the tonnage to be estimated, which determines the quotation.

Is there a minimum tonnage?

No. Scope ranges from individual support structures and mezzanines to complete industrial buildings. The quotation is determined by tonnage and erection conditions, not by contract size.

Does ONIX mobilise to site?

Yes. Personnel and lifting equipment mobilise to projects anywhere in Venezuela, and that mobilisation is built into the quoted scope.

What is the execution schedule?

It depends on tonnage and erection sequence. The schedule is established when scope is defined, stating shop fabrication dates and site erection dates separately.
