Crane lifting an industrial tank inside a steel building

API 650 · ASME VIII

Tanks and piping

Fabrication and welding of tanks and piping for industrial service, with the quality record that goes with every joint. ONIX has built tanks of up to 15,000 barrels on site.

Scope

What it covers

Scope is tuned to each project. This is what ONIX normally executes within this service.

  • Storage tanks

On-site fabrication and erection of atmospheric tanks to API 650: floor, shell courses, roof and appurtenances.

  • Pressure vessels

Vessel fabrication to ASME Section VIII, with procedures qualified to Section IX.

  • Piping systems

Spool prefabrication, field welding, supports and hydrostatic testing.

  • Testing on the job

Radiography, ultrasonics and leak testing on the joints, interpreted by a certified inspector.

Frequently asked questions

Can the tank be built on site?

Yes. That is standard for storage tanks: it is fabricated and welded in its final location, testing and hydrostatic test included.

Do you work on tanks already in service?

Yes, to API 653: inspection, evaluation and repair of existing tanks. See the rehabilitation and maintenance service.

What capacity can you build?

ONIX has fabricated and welded tanks of up to 15,000 barrels on site, with nondestructive testing on every joint.

Is testing included?

Yes. Radiography, ultrasonics and the hydrostatic test are part of the scope and are recorded in the equipment quality dossier.

What do you need to quote a tank?

Capacity, the product it will store, the location, and whether the foundation is already built. That defines the applicable code and the extent of testing.
